Tucson Sugar Skulls

WR Damond Powell joins the Tucson Sugar Skulls for his first season with the team. Powell went undrafted out of Iowa in 2015 before getting picked up by the Arizona Cardinals.

After being released in 2016, Powell made his IFL debut, joining the Cedar Rapids River Kings in 2017 (then known as the Titans). In just six games, Powell recorded 1,052 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns while averaging 65.8 yards per game. Those 22 touchdowns were tied for league-best and helped land Powell All-IFL First Team honors.

Powell then joined the Sioux Falls Storm in 2018, coming up short in the United Bowl to the Iowa Barnstormers. The receiver later landed a tryout with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes that same year. Powell then returned to the IFL with the Frisco Fighters in 2021 before coming to Tucson.

Powell, in two college seasons at Iowa, caught 608 yards on 31 receptions with five touchdowns through 20 games.
