TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Sugar Skulls will square off with the Bay Area Panthers on Sunday, April 14th at 3:05 PM as they embark on their home opener at Tucson Arena.
Home Sweet Home
After beginning the 2024 regular season with a pair of games on the road, the Skulls can finally take a deep sigh of relief as they come back home to Tucson. Surely, there is no place like home, and the Skulls are extremely eager to right their wrongs from a year ago when they compiled a lackluster 3-5 overall mark within the confines of Tucson Arena.
In the team's four-year history before 2024, the Skulls have gone a combined 16-13 at home throughout their existence including a franchise-best 5-3 record back in 2022. Entering the weekend's play, Bay Area stands at a perfect 2-0, and there's no doubt that the Boneyard will need to be at a feverish pitch to disrupt the Panther's game plans for the afternoon.
Revenge is Best Served Hot
Ahhhh… sweet, sweet, revenge. While the saying is usually that revenge is best served cold, the Sugar Skulls must pounce in Sunday's showdown almost immediately. During the first three meetings between Bay Area and Tucson, the Skulls easily defeated the Panthers. Tucson outscored Bay Area 142-104 in those matches. However, things have changed in the blink of an eye as the Panthers have managed to have the last laugh in their last two games against the Sugar Skulls. In 2023, Tucson was left with a bad taste in their mouths after Bay Area sent the Skulls home packing during postseason play.
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner
Entering just the fifth week of the Indoor Football Season, the Sugar Skulls are already turning heads despite just a pair of games completed under their belts. As a result, rookie Quarterback, Mykil Mitchell was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week after his outstanding performance in the win over Duke City. Mitchell finished his day at the office completing 15 of his 18 passing attempts for 153 yards and three touchdowns through the air. In addition, the dual-threat signal caller also amassed 58 yards on the ground while finding the endzone with his legs four separate times. If Mitchell continues dominating on the gridiron, opponents will struggle to slow him down for the rest of the season.
