PREVIEW: TUCSON TRAVELS TO PRESCOTT VALLEY FOR BATTLE AGAINST WRANGLERS

The Tucson Sugar Skulls will make the trip to Prescott Valley to take on the Northern Arizona Wranglers.

TUCSON - After a tough home loss last weekend against the San Diego Strike Force, the Tucson Sugar Skulls are looking to get back on track as they travel north to Prescott to take on the Northern Arizona Wranglers. This will be the second matchup between these in-state rivals as the Skulls look to avoid a season sweep.

This game is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th, in Prescott Valley. Kickoff is set for 6:05 pm.

LAST WEEK

Last week the Sugar Skulls took on the San Diego Strike Force for the third time this season. Going into the game the season series was tied at one game a piece, the winner of this game would hold the tie-breaker over the other. In a tightly contested game, the Strike Force scraped by with a 54-59 victory in Tucson in the final moments. In this game, the Sugar Skulls were led by QB Ramone Atkins who passed for 137 yards. Daylon Person tallied 63 receiving yards and one touchdown in the narrow defeat.

The Sugar Skulls hope to get back in the win column this weekend against NAZ in a game that will have playoff implications.

STANDINGS UPDATE

Last weekend was a massive weekend for the Western Conference playoff picture in the IFL. The Sugar Skulls (6-5) sit in third place currently, only a half-game ahead of the Northern Arizona Wranglers(6-6). With a victory, this weekend in Prescott, the Sugar Skulls can extend their cushion to 1.5 games.

The Sugar Skulls have a little more ground to make up on the other side as they are currently 1.5 games back of the tie at the top of the west between the Bay Area Panthers and Arizona Rattlers, with each sitting at an 8-4 record. If the Sugar Skulls can close the gap in the season's final weeks, they are in a good position, owning the head-to-head tie-breaker against Arizona after their 54-48 victory in week 4.

The Panthers own the tie-breaker over Tucson, due to a tied head-to-head record this season and Bay Area maintains a 7-3 Conference record which is better than the Sugar Skulls 5-5 record against conference opponents.

BATTLE FOR ARIZONA

Tucson and Northern Arizona will face off for the final time this season, this weekend in Prescott Valley. This game is not just a fight for playoff seeding but the Sugar Skulls are on a mission to end their current four-game losing streak against the Wranglers.

Their last victory came on April 23, 2022, in Tucson where the Sugar Skulls came away with a high scoring 72-62 victory.
