GAME PREVIEW: TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS VS. SIOUX FALLS STORM

The Tucson Sugar Skulls return to Tucson as they host the Sioux Falls Storm.

TUCSON - The Tucson Sugar Skulls are back in the Boneyard for what should be an exciting battle against the Sioux Falls Storm on Saturday night.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:05 pm at Tucson Arena in Tucson, Arizona.

Rare Meeting

This will be the first-ever regular-season matchup between the Sioux Falls Storm and Tucson Sugar Skulls. The Skulls and Storm played each other in the 1st Round of the 2019 Playoffs where the Storm edged out the Skulls in a close one by a count of 50-to-47.

Tucson entered the league in 2019 and due to being in opposite conferences and the 2020 season being canceled, they will face each other for the first time in the regular season with the schedule aligning.

The Storm enter the contest with a 4-3 record and are coming off a loss against Quad City on the road that broke up their 3-game winning streak. They are led by quarterback Lorenzo Brown Jr., who has tossed for 17 touchdowns and 901 yards this season.

Home Struggles

Tucson is 3-1 on the road this season but has dropped their first 2 home games early this season. They will look to get back on track and protect the Boneyard and crack their current three-game losing streak after beginning the season 3-0. All three of those wins came on the road.

Four of their next five games will be at the Boneyard, including a matchup against Bay Area on the 27th of May.

Key Stats

The defense has been the calling card for Tucson early on this season. They rank third in points allowed per game at 38.3 this season, behind only Northern Arizona and Frisco.

Sugar Skulls WR Carrington Thompson currently ranks second in the IFL for receiving touchdowns with 11. He only trails JT Stokes from the Bay Area Panthers by two touchdowns.

The Sugar Skulls are currently the second least penalized team (33 penalties) this season with the least amount of total penalty yards (234).

Teams playing against the Sugar Skulls have the lowest third-down conversion percentage in the IFL, at 35% only converting 20 out of 57 attempts.
