The Tucson Sugar Skulls are returning to Tucson 2-0 after meeting with the Arizona Rattlers at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. This marks their first win against the Rattlers in Phoenix in franchise history.
This came behind a fantastic performance from wide receiver
Carrington Thompson who caught 91 yards and three touchdowns. The Thompson-Atkins connection looks strong early on, as the Tucson offense has been firing on all cylinders.
The first half of the game was tightly contested, with neither team giving way to the other. The Rattlers struck first followed by a touchdown by Thompson. Tucson struck twice more in this half both times by
MJ Harris. The Skulls trailed by one (20-21) heading into the half.
The Sugar Skulls came out of the locker room ready to play scoring two consecutive touchdowns first by QB
Ramone Atkins who ran into the end zone to give Tucson the lead. Followed a 34-yard reception which found
Carrington Thompson in the end zone.
The Sugar Skull rushing attack stood out most in this victory with 97 yards and holding Arizona to only 46. The ground game was led by
Ramone Atkins who ended the game with 48 rushing and a rushing touchdown. This was coupled with RB Mike James who had 29 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
