TUCSON - The Tucson Sugar Skulls are coming off a huge victory over their I-10 rivals, the Arizona Rattlers last Saturday night.
The Tucson Sugar Skulls set a franchise-record of 74 points scored in their victory over the Rattlers. It was their first win over the in-state rival in eight attempts, and improved them to 4-3 on the season.
Western Conference Showdown
The Skulls will be heading up north this weekend to face off against yet another in-state rival, the Northern Arizona Wranglers. This will be the second of three meetings between the two Western Conference foes. A Sugar Skulls win would earn them the tie-breaker and could have huge playoff seeding implications down the road.
The winner of the game will be in control of the second seed out West. Tucson by tie-breaker, NAZ by a full two games.
The Wranglers and Skulls faced off earlier this season in Boneyard, with the Skulls winning a shootout, 72-62. The Wranglers are currently undefeated at home this season while the Skulls are on a three-game winning streak.
Offensive Firepower
The Skulls are currently number one in the league in offense, averaging 55.4 points per game. The Skulls quarterback
Daquan Neal was the "Skull of the Game" recording five touchdowns with an 80% completion rate. Neal is has 12 rushing touchdowns and 26 passing touchdowns this season.
Skulls kicker
Logan Justus was named the IFL Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on 8-of-10 PATs and going a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts. The rookie kicker was responsible for 14 points with his leg alone.
The Wranglers are number four in the league for offense, putting up 43.7 points per contest. Northern Arizona's true strength this season has been their stout defense, as they hold the number number one spot on defense in the IFL, allowing just 30.6 points per game.
