TUCSON, AZ – The Tucson Sugar Skulls will host the Massachusetts Pirates at Tucson Convention Center this Saturday, June 19 at 6:05 p.m. MST.
Crafty Croft
The IFL's Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week, Sugar Skulls quarterback Demry Croft scored four total times in Tucson's most recent game against the Arizona Rattlers. The rookie has put up impressive numbers on the season, ranking third in the IFL in rushing yards per game and fifth in total yards per game.
Entering Week 9, running back Mike Jones ranks fifth in the IFL in rushing touchdowns, after scoring his sixth of the season against the Rattlers. Jones and Croft have led the Sugar Skulls to the fifth-best rushing offense in the league.
Barber Bash
TT Barber and the Sugar Skulls' defense were up to the challenge against the high-powered Rattlers offense on Saturday, holding the IFL's No. 3 scoring team to below 50 points and contributing several key stops to grab the lead entering the fourth quarter. Barber racked up a team-high 12 total tackles and an important field goal block at the end of the first half. Barber currently sits twelfth in the IFL in total tackles.
The Sugar Skulls have the fourth-best scoring defense and passing defense through the first eight weeks of the IFL season. Defensive back Michael Minter leads the secondary with two interceptions on the season.
Playing the Pirates
The Massachusetts Pirates (3-3) and the Sugar Skulls (1-3) will meet for their first ever IFL matchup. Former long-time Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams, who has 14 receptions for 137 yards and one touchdown, leads the Pirates on offense.
The defense of the Pirates is the best in the league in both total defense and passing defense with players like Chucky Williams. Williams has 14 tackles, one fumble recovery and a pass deflection on the season, assisting Massachusetts in ranking in the top-two of every defensive category.
