Sugar Skulls Look To Continue Win Streak Against New Mexico Chupacabras
Tucson, AZ – The Sugar Skulls continue the season at home on June 7, as they host the New Mexico Chupacabras at Tucson Arena. This is the third matchup between Tucson and New Mexico this season, however, this matchup is different. This matchup features an exciting reunion between Ja’Rome Johnson and his former team. Johnson has quickly become a key piece of Tucson’s offense, and his familiarity with the Chupacabras could make for an exciting and entertaining battle. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM MST at the Tucson Arena where the Sugar Skulls are celebrating Bones’ Birthday.
Coming off a monumental home win against the Orlando Pirates, Tucson is looking to keep the momentum going and secure their fourth win of the season. New Mexico is recuperating from a tough at-home loss to the San Diego Strike Force.
Looking Back
Last Saturday, the Sugar Skulls faced off against the high-ranked Orlando Pirates. New additions to the Sugar Skulls, like Ja’Rome Johnson, proved key as Tucson came out on top, 53-37. The Skulls displayed offensive consistency and relentless defensive strength throughout the matchup, ultimately securing the dominant win against a powerful opponent.
The first quarter featured touchdowns from Ja’Rome Johnson and Brandon Mackey. The Sugar Skulls had a great offensive run and consistent defense to end the first quarter with Orlando trailing 20-7. The second quarter was a back and forth battle, with both teams trading scores and ultimately finishing 34-34.
The Sugar Skulls offense stayed hot in the third quarter as Brandon Mackey scored to put the Sugar Skulls up. Defensively, Chucky Williams and Bri’On Murray were powerful this quarter to help keep Orlando to only three points, ending the quarter 47-37. In the fourth quarter, Ben Woodard had two field goals to ultimately put the Sugar Skulls up 53-37.
Battling the New Mexico Chupacabras
This week, the Sugar Skulls host the New Mexico Chupacabras. The teams met twice earlier this season, with Tucson coming out on top both times. Tucson is ready to continue to bring the intensity and energy against the Chupacabras.
