Tucson Sugar Skulls Seek Victory in Rematch against Vegas Knight Hawks
Tucson, AZ – The Sugar Skulls continue the 2026 season on the road as they travel to
Lee’s Family Forum to face the top-ranked Vegas Knight Hawks. Kickoff is set for 7:00
PM MST on Saturday, June 13.
Coming off a victory against the New Mexico Chupacabras, Tucson is looking to
continue its win streak and earn redemption against the Vegas Knight Hawks. The
Knight Hawks are coming off a tight overtime win against the Northern Arizona
Wranglers and looking to continue their 9-game winning streak.
Last Week’s Triumph
Last Sunday, the Sugar Skulls hosted the New Mexico Chupacabras. Newly acquired
quarterback Ja’Rome Johnson once again proved crucial as he led the team to victory
with a series of strong plays and effective leadership. The Skulls' offense displayed
incredible ability as its defense fought to limit scoring opportunities, and Tucson
ultimately came out on top, 48-22.
The first quarter opened with a touchdown from defensive back Aaron Johnson, and the
Skulls continued the momentum with a second touchdown and a field goal. The first
quarter ended with the Skulls in the lead, 16-7. The Skulls maintained the energy in the
second quarter, preventing New Mexico from scoring and strengthening Tucson’s lead,
23-7.
The third quarter saw increased momentum from both teams. Tucson scored two
touchdowns, continuing to prevent New Mexico from catching up, bringing the score to
37-20. Defensive lineman Rafiq Abdul-Wahid recovered a ball fumbled by the
Chupacabras and converted it into a touchdown for the Skulls. The fourth quarter began
as a low-scoring standstill, but the Skulls managed to score a touchdown, a deuce, and
a safety, bringing the final score to 48-22, officially securing a victory for Tucson.
Last Meeting
This is the second meeting between Vegas and Tucson this season. The two teams last
met at the beginning of the season, when Tucson fell to Vegas 64-43. Since the home
opener, Tucson has built its offensive strength and added valuable members to the
roster. The Skulls are prepared to face the Knight Hawks a second time with newfound
momentum and increased confidence.
With last week’s win behind them, the Sugar Skulls are motivated and prepared to hit
the road and face the #1-ranked Vegas Knight Hawks. Though the Knight Hawks have
the home crowd, the Sugar Skulls are bringing the spirit of the Boneyard with them.
Tune in on Saturday, June 13, at 7:00 PM MST to watch the showdown and support the
Sugar Skulls as they continue the season.
